The Municipal Authority of the Borough of West View Joseph A. Berkley Water Treatment Plant on Neville Island was selected to receive the prestigious Area Wide Optimization Program (AWOP) Award in 2013.
This award is presented to the top performing water systems in the state. AWOP is a national filter plant optimization effort among 22 states, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Association of State Drinking Water Administrators (ASDWA) and participating water systems. Out of Pennsylvania’s 355 filter plants, 170 participated in AWOP during 2013 by submitting important turbidity performance data. Only filter plants that submitted their 2013 turbidity data electronically using DEP’s Web Optimization Assessment Software (WebOAS) were eligible to receive an AWOP award this year.

AWOP recognizes outstanding efforts toward optimizing filter plant turbidity performance with a prestigious AWOP Award. The top performing filter plants who submitted their 2013 WebOAS turbidity data received an AWOP Award. The top large filter plants (serving > 10,000 people) were presented the AWOAP Award at the Water Works Operators’ Association of Pennsylvania (WWOAP) conference. West View Water Treatment Plant was one of the 22 plants selected to receive this award. Out of the 353 total surface water plants in the state, only 201 were eligible for this award. The West View Plant was one of the 22 plants selected to receive this award and hopes to keep the tradition going and be eligible for next year’s award!
