FAQ – Coronavirus – WVWA & Water Safety

Are there any risks of COVID-19 being transmitted through drinking water and water supplies?

According to health officials, COVID-19 is primarily transmitted person-to-person and there is no indication that transmission can occur via drinking water supplies. WVWA’s water meets both federal and state standards and is safe to drink.

Have West View Water Authority Employees implemented social distancing?

Yes, we have implemented social distancing practices in an effort to protect both customers and employees.

May Customers enter the building to make payments?

No.  Please place all payments and/or correspondence in our night slot to the right of the front doors.  Our receptionist will be retrieving payments/correspondence periodically throughout the day.  Please remember that WVWA always accepts online payments.  Customers can also mail in their payments or call us at 412-931-3500 during normal business hours to pay by phone.

Have you suspended water shutoffs?

Yes. We understand that this is an incredibly difficult time.  No water terminations will occur during the Coronavirus crisis due to non-payment.  You can learn more about WVWA’s Hardship Program – Dollar Energy Fund for assistance information which has been changed, temporarily, due to the pandemic.

Currently, termination procedures are still being enforced for non-compliance of required annual backflow testing.  For more information about the Backflow (Cross Connection) Program, click here.

Is West View Water still making service calls?

Yes.  We are currently making non-essential as well as essential service calls.  If you have a service request we ask that you contact us at 412-931-3500 or email at customerservice@westviewwater.org  to assess your request.

How can I prepare for a service call during this crisis?

Once scheduled, a service man will be dispatched to your property. When scheduling this work, you will be asked to provide Customer Service with any information that would be helpful to ensure the safety of our employees as well as you, the customer, such as:

  • Is there anyone not well in the home?

  • Will you please give the service man space while he is there (social distancing)?  They would prefer being at the meter alone due to COVID-19.

  • Are there going to be contractors working?  Please make sure they keep a safe distance while our service man is working.

  • If the service man does not feel safe at the property, he has the right to leave without doing work.

  • Please provide adequate space for the service men to do their job. These are trained professionals that are there to help you; social distancing is of the utmost importance.

Can I flush wipes?

No! Although many wipes are marketed as flushable, they are not and can back up sewer lines and overflow toilets. Please only flush toilet paper down your toilets.
